We found set up to be simple and intuitive and although the tent can be pitched as one, first time around, we needed to attach the bedroom compartment inside. To put the tent up there are 3 poles to assemble which are colour coded and are attached in place using a simple ring and pin system. It’s a traditional tunnel design tent with a front living area, and a rear bedroom that can be separated using a clip in divider. On arrival at the campsite the tent took the 2 of us about 15 minutes to put up. We’ve written previously about the Coleman Rocky Mountain 5 tent after seeing it at the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show earlier this year, so when Coleman got in touch with us, we were keen to field test one for ourselves. Editors Choice winner, 2016 Camping awards.Flysheet is fire retardant and features UVGuard, providing SPF 50 protection.BlackOut Bedrooms™ block out 99% of sunlight and regulates temperature. We’d have liked mesh on the large front door, apart from that though, the Solaris has everything we look for in a quality tent.2 doors and plenty of windows, make the tent bright and airy.Lots of well thought out design features, like pockets to stow doors into, bedroom dividers and hanging points.Internal storm straps to give the tent extra stability in high winds.Much bigger inside than the tent looks.Cable entry points made using our HUBi solar charger effortless.Super fast pitching time and pumping up the AirBeams was lots of fun.Pack size of the tent and pump is good.We loved the oversized bag, which made packing the tent away easy. The Solaris is a truly excellent tent, and we’re already looking forward to camping in it again! What We Liked This is definitely much more than just the weekend tent we thought it would be, and we’d have no hesitation in using this for our longer camping trips. We think the Solaris is perfect for anyone wanting to invest in a high quality AirBeam tent, and it provides ample space for couples who glamp, or for smaller families. The Solaris is ideal for when my health doesn’t allow me to help with pitching too, as the AirBeam tent is super easy for one person to put up on their own. The manufacturing quality is excellent, as you’d expect from Vango, and we loved the abundant clever design features (see our pictures below).Īfter using the Solaris, we are absolute converts to AirBeam tents, and certainly won’t be sad to see the back of pole tents (apart from our beloved bell tent of course!). It’s also a great place to retreat to away from the hot sun, and from rain showers too and we experienced some real extremes in weather over the weekend, and were incredibly grateful to have a covered outdoor area. The addition of the front porch provided extra living space, perfect for summer evenings. The addition of the front porch is brilliant, and effectively added to the amount of overall usable living space, and the height of the tent is great too, helping it to feel nice and big. I previously owned a Vango Icarus 500, with an additional extension, which I used happily for many years, and the Solaris is an ideal, slightly bigger replacement. The tent worked very well for us, and even with our usual furniture, camp kitchen and so on, the tent never felt at all cramped. We were pleasantly surprised however and found the tent extremely spacious. Having looked at the dimensions, we weren’t convinced the Solaris would be big enough for our usual needs, and expected it to only be suitable for short weekend trips. We tend to go for very large tents usually as a result of our hobby, because we have a lot of costume, props and accessories to take along with us when we camp at events. though no was as cool as the polly cotton version.Ĭamping world normally have them both pitched up outside so you can go play with them. (as seen on roof below)Īnd we gotta say it did work. One tip the guy gave us was to us CAMO netting over the top of the tent in summer to reduce the heating in the tent. In the end it seemed to us that pollycotton was best for hotter trips away like europe and the like, and maybe not so suitable for the UK. SOOOO COOL !!īUT, the sales guy told us some home truths about the poly cotton material. ( Advanced polycotton material )Īs we had walk tested both tents on the hottest day of the year in 2019 and the difference between the polycotton and regular tent material was night and day. Though we originally went in to buy the Kampa Studland 8 Classic Air. ( WeathershieldTM 150D ) - normal nylon tent material.
